2009 EMPLOYEE
OF THE YEAR: Mrs. Olga Hernandez.
Olga Hernandez was hired
in August 2006, to work in our Water Distribution Department, as a Service Tech I. In
that position, she began by reading meters, and moved on to doing field work, such as replacing meters, meter boxes, and helping
with the valve maintenance program. She also helps with cut off lists and on orders, meter re-reads and checking out customer
complaints.
Her supervisor, Jerry Warden,
describes Olga as, “a unique person, who volunteers readily. She has a pleasant and calm personality, and is cheerful
in all types of weather”. Mr. Warden also stated that Olga holds the record for learning the meter routes the fastest.
He attributes to her a “great sense of humor” because she laughs
at his jokes. One of her greatest qualities is that she is willing to do whatever
needs to be done, without complaint.
During the year, Ms. Hernandez
attended a FWPCOA short school, and became certified in Backflow Prevention and Assembly. She also attended a Backflow Repair
course. She was also recertified in CPR, & AED, and completed a driver’s
improvement course.
Olga won the Employee of
the Year by achieving the highest number of Employee of the Month points during the year; a total of 203.75 points from October
2008 through September 2009. In addition to her educational achievements, she also received points for not using vacation
or sick time, and for being on time.
To date, Ms. Hernandez has
not received the Employee of the Month Award. However, by being consistently at work - on time, she has helped to prove that
old saying that “being sure and steady wins the race.”
In recognition of her outstanding achievements in being named 2009 EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR, Mrs. Olga Hernandez will receive
8 hours off with pay, an Immokalee Water & Sewer District shirt, $50 in Winn Dixie gift certificates and an award
from the Immokalee Water & Sewer District, along with our congratulations and heartfelt appreciation for a job well done.
